12 Days of Christmas: The Hidden Catholic Meaning of Classic Christmas Song

“The Twelve Days of Christmas” is a traditional Christmas carol with a hidden Christian meaning, believed to be a coded catechism used by English Catholics during the time when Catholicism was outlawed in England (1558-1829). Each gift in the song represents a different aspect of the Christian faith:

A Partridge in a Pear Tree – Jesus Christ. The partridge, a bird willing to sacrifice its life to protect its young, symbolizes Christ sacrificing Himself for humanity.
Two Turtle Doves – The Old and New Testaments of the Bible, offering the complete story of Christian theology.
Three French Hens – The theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Four Calling Birds – The Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) which spread the story of Christ.
Five Gold Rings – The first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah or the Pentateuch.
Six Geese A-Laying – The six days of creation (Genesis 1) that describe the creation of the world.
Seven Swans A-Swimming – The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord).
Eight Maids A-Milking – The eight Beatitudes, teachings of Jesus that start with “Blessed are…” in the Sermon on the Mount.
Nine Ladies Dancing – The nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Ten Lords A-Leaping – The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17).
Eleven Pipers Piping – The eleven faithful apostles (excluding Judas).
Twelve Drummers Drumming – The twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle’s Creed.

This interpretation of the carol is not universally accepted and is considered by some as a fanciful folk legend. However, it serves as a beautiful example of how religious truths can be woven into popular culture. read more

I’m turning 40 tomorrow. I will officially be “Over the hill” or about half way through the average life expectancy. Although I know plenty of people in my own family who are well into their 90s and approaching even 100. So I think that hill should not be until you’re 50, but nonetheless, society is about to brand me as an old woman. Not only an old woman, but an old woman who plays video games. But that’s OK, because as I’ve gotten older, I have learned to stop caring what society thinks. I remember clearly, the day I turned 25. I’m pretty sure I had a quarter-life crisis. I cried all day and told my family that it meant that I had to give up everything I loved, my toys, my games, cosplaying, anime, etc. I don’t know why, but I suddenly felt shame for my hobbies. Games and anime and cosplay were popular with teenagers and early 20something year olds, but I didn’t know of anyone 25+ who enjoyed those things. Advent Calendars are popular with children. Do you use advent calendars to countdown to Christmas in your home? Traditionally these calendars have numbered pockets 1 through 25. The idea is that you hide a small gift in each pocket.

Many advent calendar pockets are quite small, so you can only hide one piece of candy like a hershey kiss or life saver. But some calendars are larger. I found these perfect advent calendars at Target for $10 each and had an idea.

We don’t have any children, but who says kids get to have all the fun? It’s been a rough year for a lot of people. Let’s give each other something to look forward to every day. My idea was simple. To fill an advent calendar with small inexpensive gifts that even adults will love. No candy or toys here! dealspotr Helps You Save and Earn Cashback on Holiday Shopping

This is a paid review, however all opinions are 100% my own.

I’ve done a number of reviews for dealspotr, because it’s my favorite GPT (Get Paid To) website. I’ve been a member of dealspotr since May 2016. In the past 6 months I’ve received over $200 amazon gift cards. I’ve not found a faster or more fun way to earn money online.

I’ve put together a very in depth tutorial for new users here with pictures that show you walking through how to register your free account, choosing interests, following your favorite stores, validating deals, and sharing your own deals on the site. Be sure you check it out.

The site is simple and easy to use. When you log on (assuming it’s not your first visit to the site) you’ll see a page with some hot deals that are currently trending. In the upper right hand side you’ll see your profile showing your dashboard with an orange bar indicating how close you are to your next gift card as well as showing a daily task list that you can optionally complete to score some free points each day. You’ll also see your accuracy score in green.

Accuracy score is super important on dealspotr. When it is low you will be limited in how many deals you can post or validate each day. Make sure you are only posting valid deals and assigning them to the correct sections of the site. As your accuracy score increases, you will soon reach a point where you can post and validate unlimited deals which means there’s no limit to how much you can earn using the site.

On the left hand side, you’ll see a big blue button that says +Add a Deal – This is where you go to share your own deals. You’ll be asked a series of questions to get information about the deal such as if it requires a coupon code, if it’s sitewide or applies only to specific items, and the expiration date. You can share all kinds of deals from printable coupons, to online sales, or even “matchup deals” demonstrating how to use multiple deals to maximize your discounts.

Based on the types of deals you add and the information you provide, you’ll earn varying amounts of points typically around 50 points per deal. Every 10,000 points you earn will give you another gift card. They are a tiny bit slow in sending the gift cards out. Typically it only takes 2-3 days but I’ve had it take up to 10-12 days before. This is normal, so don’t get nervous if your reward takes awhile to arrive – and be sure to check your junk and spam folders as well.

Not only do you earn money, but you can save a ton of money on things you already buy, ranging from food, dining out, groceries, clothing, baby items, household goods, toys, video games, electronics, and much more. dealspotr has dozens of deals for your favorite stores and brands.

Amazon has a new exclusive color for the new Nintendo 3DS XL – a lime green shell with black interior. It comes pre-installed with Super Mario World. — It however does not come with an AC Adapter — When I read that I was kinda all wtf? Is this the case for all “new” Nintendo 3DS XL models? If so, what is Nintendo thinking? This seems like a must have item – cuz once it’s dead, it needs charged. It will work with any NDSi, 3DS, or 2DS adapter but then so what? So they only want to target “existing” customers with this device? — Or they REALLY care about making a few meager bucks by forcing customers to by the dumb adapters instead of including one for free??? Even if they had to “pad the price” of the 3DS XL a little – like make it $225 instead of $199 to cover the cost of the adapter, that seems more intelligent than not including one at all. How many people (especially parents buying gifts for their kids) are not going to read the fine print and not even see it doesn’t include an adapter until it’s too late? – This is just a bonehead move by Nintendo – or Amazon – whoever’s idea this was it’s dumb…

But none the less, the new system is very pretty! It’s what I would call, “Yoshi Green” lol. And Super Mario World (assuming it’s anything like the one on super nintendo) is probably the best Mario game — I also love the 64 version, and Super Mario Bros 3 though a lot too. But Super Mario World has a lot of secrets to explore like Rainbow Road, the Ghost Houses, different exits and hidden warp zones and lots of fun things. It’s a very long and large Mario game, and a classic in the franchise. And it’s just plain fun too!

Walmart just released their ad for black friday 2016. Select deals are available already online at walmart.com and the deals will begin in store at 6PM on November 24th.

This year Walmart is offering some amazing deals on TVs including a 55″ 4k HDTV for $298 and a 40″ HDTV (NOT 4k though) for just $125.

The Iphone 5S is also under $100

PS4 is just $249 and comes with a $30 Walmart gift card which, as long as you can get use of the gift card (and who can’t I mean, Walmart has EVERYTHING lol) — That brings your total cost down to just $219. Almost as good as the deal Target is running right now.

Nintendo Announces Limited Edition Black or White 3DS for $99.99

Nintendo announced plans to launch two new limited edition Nintendo 3DS handheld portable gaming systems on November 25th, 2016 for just $99.99. You can choose from either an all black, or all white, 3DS system with popular nintendo characters and icons embossed on the face plate.

It’s the first time an all black 3DS has been available outside of Japan, and also the first time that the 3DS has ever gone on sale for less than $100. There is no word on if this is just a temporary price cut for the holiday season, or a permanent new price for the entire 3DS lineup. I’m guessing that it will be the new standard price moving forward, as the new handheld, the Nintendo Switch, will be out in just under 4 months now.

The Nintendo 3DS game library has some amazing games if you like RPG, Simulation, or Strategy games (others too, but those genre seem to be the handheld’s strong suit (and happen to be some of my favorite genres as well). I still get a lot of use out of my 3DS and developers are continuing to push out new games still for the system despite being very late in the handheld’s life cycle.

If you don’t already have a 3DS now is the perfect time, and price, to get one for yourself or to give as a gift so you can play together with your friends and family.

Already they are offering up some pretty sweet deals for geeks and gamers. I recommend bookmarking and checking back as often as possible. I’m hoping for a PS4 Bundle or Console to go on sale. I have enough already to purchase, but since it is that time of year, saving some money never hurts, and I’ve waited this long already to get myself the newest consoles, so might as well hang in there a few more weeks and see what happens!

Last year, amazon had amazing black friday and cyber monday exclusive gaming bundles for all three major game systems including Xbone, PS4, and WiiU. This year the savings should be even greater since the technology continues to age and the market gets even more competitive with new consoles such as the Xbox Scorpio, PS4 Pro, and (soon to be released) Nintendo Switch, which means the standard Xbox One, PS4 Slim, and possibly Wii U will need to discount their inventory to see a strong finish this year.

I just discovered a great new website for Geeky Tees. The prices start at just $11 – although they do charge more for some designs, or for plus sized clothing. They offer both men and womens, and even youth clothing. They also have hoodies and lots of other goodies. Here are a few of my favorite designs. You can click on any of the pictures to go to the Ript Apparel website where you can see how the shirts look on an actual live model.

They have a really cool Exclusive Deadpool X The Walking Dead T-shirt. Deadpool is so hot right now.

The one thing I noticed is that their selection of sizes could use some improvement. If you’re a man – they’ve got you covered with sizes going all the way to 5XL. However, if you’re a woman, the sizes only go to 2XL. I’ve seen other sites that go to Women’s 3x or even 4x. And on the opposite end of the body diversity scale – they do not offer Extra Small which many of their competitors have. Luckily I can fit within the range of sizes they offer – but if you’re larger – or smaller – you might have better luck else where.

Despite that one small snaffu – the site has a lot of appeal. Their prices are far more competitive than similar sites, and they have new designs every day.

Today they have an awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tee. Which also happens to be exclusive. (Among a lot of other awesome designs – but being born in the 80s, I found this design the most appealing myself.)

Some of their other designs totally speak to 90s kids (like myself). They have cool Mashups like DBZ (or Deadpool) and Fresh Prince of Bellaire or Minions and Dr Who. They also have childhood favorites such as AH! Real Monsters.

I think my favorite one though is this ADORABLE (KAWAII!!!) Lego Deadpool Chimichunga Tshirt!! I’m totally buying this one when I get paid. I Love, love, love the color and how cute it is! OMG!.

While going through their site – I also noticed they have completely different designs for Women and Men’s tees – including their Exclusive line up. Both of the Deadpool shirts featured in my blog post here are available only in Women’s. – I kinda like this fact 🙂 I feel like they’re aiming designs and characters directly to us geeky girls. I haven’t seen this approach used on other graphic tee sites so it’s just an extra layer of awesome. Of course though it’s a double edged sword as some of the men’s designs I wish were also available as women’s and there may be men who want the designs on the women’s tee, like the first Deadpool X The Walking Dead shirt in my post – or heck – even the Lego one. Who says Men can’t be Kawaii? LOL. And men definitely love Legos and Deadpool and chimichungas.

Still, the neat, exclusivity of their tshirt designs is really awesome. Some designs only stay available for one day. This makes me want to buy more! It’s definitely worth checking out each day to see what their new designs are.
