Hey sweeties,
So, the Nintendo Switch 2 finally got its big reveal and… whew. I have a lot of feelings. Some good. Some not-so-good. Some why even bother bro.
Let’s just rip the band-aid off: I’m kinda disappointed. I mean yeah, there’s some exciting stuff in the mix—a new Zelda (yes please), a new Donkey Kong, new Kirby Air Riders, and okay, I’ll admit it—that new Dracula-inspired game, “The Duskbloods” (I knew it had “Dusk” and gave big Castlevania vibes) looks sick. That’s the kind of dark, moody, pixel-chic I live for.
BUT… nearly everything else feels like a remix of stuff we already own. Remasters, ports, games that have been on PC, PS5, or Xbox since forever, or barely upgraded versions of existing Switch titles. Nintendo basically said, “Here’s Switch 1 but shinier.” And I’m like, “Cool story bro… but where are the new ideas?”
Let’s talk cozy for a sec—because y’all know that’s my jam.
Where. Are. The. Cozy. Games?
No new Animal Crossing (seriously Nintendo? It’s been YEARS), no Fire Emblem, no Otome, no visual novels, and clearly no love for the girlies who want to just flirt with pixel boys, decorate houses, and raise turnips. And don’t get me started on that Nintendogs April Fools joke—girl, I knew it was fake but still my heart cracked in half. That’s what we really want. Not 10-year-old ports in HD.
Sure, the larger screen looks great and I’m not mad about the Joy-Cons. Yes, I’ve had drift. Yes, I’ve bought replacements. Yes, I still prefer them. They’re light, cozy, and let me lounge goblin girl style with one arm under a pillow and the other holding a single Joy-Con like I’m at the spa, not dodging enemies in Zelda.
The voice chat and command features are finally a thing, which is long overdue. But girl, I’m not turning on no camera. Let me game in peace with my hair in a claw clip and a half-eaten cookie on my chest. Ain’t nobody need to see me like that.
The good stuff?
- Mario Kart World is taking things up a gear with a slick new day-and-night system and a semi-open world setup that lets you drive to your next course. Plus, a free roam mode that lets you go off track, anywhere you want to go.
- GoldenEye reboot made my man scream like a kid at Toys “R” Us.
- GameCube compatibility? Heck yeah. I’ve been begging for that.
- A few upgraded cozy titles like Story of Seasons and Tamagotchi Life are getting Switch 2 versions with enhanced visuals and gameplay. Nice, but I expected more.
What really chaps my buttons though?
The new memory cards.
Why, Nintendo? WHY? I spent over $100 on a 1TB SD card for my OG Switch and now you’re telling me I need to do that again for Switch 2? Like…seriously??? That’s just greedy.
Look—I’m still going to preorder. Of course I am. It’s Nintendo. It’s me. This is what we do. But this reveal didn’t give me the heart-fluttering hype I wanted. I know things will get better. I remember Switch 1’s early days, and now it’s hands-down my favorite console of this generation. Meanwhile my PS5 is over there like a glorified Netflix machine because let’s be real, I can play all that on PC.
Exclusives are everything. Not timed ones, not ports. REAL exclusives. Creative, fresh, fun, and cute exclusives. The kind that makes me drop everything and scream into my pastel pillow pile.
So here’s hoping, Nintendo. Don’t let us cozy girls down.
Give us Otome. Give us love. Give us sparkle. And for the love of Nook, give us a new damn Animal Crossing.
Final Verdict? Mildly bummed but still onboard. Just don’t make me regret this preorder.
