Movie Review: Here Starring Tom Hanks – A Deeply Emotional and Philosophical Journey

Posted on November 9, 2024November 9, 2024 By GeekySweetie

Omg, I loved Here with Tom Hanks! Critics and fans might give it low ratings, with scores around 20-30% out of 100, but I’m here to say, don’t let that fool you! This movie is not garbage at all—it’s thought-provoking, moving, and exactly the type of film that makes you think.

If you’re the type of person who loves digging into deep, emotional, and philosophical themes, then this movie is for you. I know that might not be everyone’s taste—sometimes people just want comedy or action. But Here is something different. It’s a journey that plays with the ideas of time, memory, and love, and it does it in a way that sticks with you long after the credits roll.

Plot Details and Emotional Depth

Yes, I’ll admit, Here can be a bit predictable, but not in a bad way. When one of the characters begins to forget things, I had a feeling where the story might go. But that didn’t detract from the experience—instead, it added a bittersweet anticipation, making the emotional payoff at the end all the more powerful. And let me tell you, I cried like a baby when she told him, “I loved it here.” It was one of those rare, heart-wrenching moments that only a truly beautiful movie can create.

Visuals and Computer Graphics – It Doesn’t Bother Me

Another criticism Here has faced is its use of computer graphics to age or de-age Tom Hanks. Honestly? It didn’t bother me one bit. In fact, it helped the movie seamlessly travel through past, present, and future moments without losing the audience. If you pay attention, it all comes together beautifully, though I can see how it might be a little challenging to follow if you’re not fully invested. This isn’t the kind of movie you can casually watch; it demands your attention, and it’s worth giving.

Overall Rating and Final Thoughts

For me, Here was a solid 7-8 out of 10. I’m so glad I watched it, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys deep, emotional journeys. Don’t listen to the haters—if you’re willing to invest your mind and heart, this movie will reward you. And now, I can’t wait to dive into the comic it’s based on!

Have you seen Here? What did you think? Let me know in the comments, and let’s get a conversation going!

So if you’re someone who loves movies that challenge you, make you think, and leave you feeling moved, Here might just be the hidden gem you’ve been looking for.

Edit to add: after buying the digital version of the comic. The way the movie is filmed is intentional. That’s another thing people slammed it for, stationary camera and the little “squares” overlays. They called it “experimental” and “uncanny valley” but if you look at the source material of the comic book it’s clearly intentional. Great job. Few will appreciate this film. But those that do will cherish it forever.
