I often spend more time modding my sims and creating sims, families, and pets, than I do actually playing the games. lol. The sims franchise appeals to a broad range of people and is probably the most well loved game amongst “non-gamer” girls. Girls whom typically do not enjoy video games seem to love the Sims.
One neat thing about the Sims is that you can design your own hairstyles, skin tones, clothing, jewelry, makeup, and accessories. This is known as reskinning or modding in many games. The neat thing about the Sims series is that your new meshes and textures can coexist with EA’s default textures and items. So you don’t have to lose any items to make room for the new ones.
So let’s say you’re just not feeling very creative, but you’d still like to get some new stuff for your sims. Of course, there’s EA’s store – but in my opinion EA’s textures are just butt ugly. The fan community is really where it’s at when it comes to modding your game.
There are a number of sites and resources available for owners of Sims 2 and Sims 3 games who wish to add fan created content to their games.
My favorite site for such things is The Sims Resource at http://thesimsresource.com It used to be that most items were available pay only, but that changed in 2013. Now even free users can download all the items. I still subscribe to VIP because I like the basket feature which allows me to more quickly navigate the site and zips my downloads into one file.
It’s very affordable, just 11 dollars for a 2 month subscription. But the subscription is now completely optional so I really recommend checking them out. People from around the world use this site to share their sims creations. It’s a wonderful site with literally millions of items to add to your games.
I also recommend Blue Book for sims 3 custom hair. This site has all free hair and most (if not all of them) are not available on sites like the sims resource.
Spring 4 Sims is also very good. It has over 5,000 free sims 2 and sims 3 resources and is updated daily.
New Sea is my favorite source for sims 2 and sims 3 custom hair. Many of her files are available for free on thesimsresource.com however, she also has subscription only hair available only directly from her website.
Peggy Zone also has free sims 2 and sims 3 hair as well as subscription only hair for both games.
Tumblr can also be an excellent resource for custom content. Check out all the sims 3 content by visiting this link which pulls any content that’s tagged for sims 3 custom content Visit Tumblr Now
