This is probably my favorite moment that I recorded from our first playthrough of “Gensmak! A Trivia Game For Every Generation.” At the end you see our youngest member, our older friend’s daughter, successfully answer a question from decades before she was born and impress us all. You can see the smiles and cheers and high-fives. And this was all authentic. I had no idea how the crowd would react or how much we would all truly love the game. As a proud millennial born in 1981, I am no stranger to trivia nights and the friendly competition they bring. But last weekend, our diverse group of friends—comprised of Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, fellow Millennials, and Gen Zs—decided to take it to a whole new level with “Gensmak! A Trivia Game for Every Generation.” Little did we know that we were in for a night of laughter, surprises, and a walk down memory lane.
Gensmak is the perfect game for our multi-generational group, as it features questions from the 1920s all the way through to the 2020s. The questions ranged from easy to hard, ensuring that everyone had a fighting chance. You can play as teams or individuals. We had an odd number of players this time so we decided to play every man woman and child for themselves!
The most surprising aspect of the game was how much we knew about other generations. There were moments when our Gen Z friends would accurately answer a question from the Boomer era, and we were left speechless. Similarly, our Boomer friends impressed us with their knowledge of Gen Z culture. However, there were times when we were all stumped by questions from our own generations, making us wonder how much we truly knew about our own era.
Gensmak’s simple and competitive rules made the game even more enjoyable. You can steal cards if the other team doesn’t guess correctly, and you earn bonus cards if you answer a question out of your generation or without a hint. The first team or individual to collect at least one card from each generation and a total of 20 cards wins the game.
The night was filled with laughter, classic nostalgia, and a healthy dose of friendly banter. The game became even more intense as each player inched closer to victory, with everyone vying for those coveted bragging rights.
In the end, it was a photo finish with several of us just a card away from victory. But when the dust settled, I was crowned trivia Queen.
Gensmak proved to be a fantastic addition to our family game night. Not only did it bring us closer together, but it also provided an opportunity to learn more about different generations and their unique experiences. The game was a hit with everyone, and I’m sure it will make a return appearance at future game nights.
So, if you’re looking for a fun and engaging game that spans generations, look no further than Gensmak! Gather your friends and family, and prepare for a night filled with laughter, learning, and some good old-fashioned smack talk.
Hi, just saw this. I’m one of the game developers. Your post made the whole team smile. You got what we shoot for. Your family is so fun!
Thanks Chris! We all love the game. We played it again around Easter with even my 80 year old grandma. Fun for the whole family.
