So, I just watched Netflix’s interactive romcom “Choose Love,” and honestly, I’ve got mixed feelings. First off, the concept is basically an Otome game come to life. You get to make choices for Cami that affect her career and love life. The love interests? Totally dreamy, all of them. There’s her long-time boyfriend Paul, her high school sweetheart Jack, and this rockstar named Rex.
But here’s where it gets a little sketchy for me: the acting. It’s bad. Cami even breaks the fourth wall, and that just makes it worse. However, the cinematography in some scenes is stunning, like the one with the white sheets—absolutely beautiful. And the way the studio lights hit Rex? Magic.
The love interests remind me so much of my husband. Jack, the teacher, is Hispanic just like him. Paul is the nurturing, kid-loving type. And Rex? With his flirty winks? Just like my husband when he’s in that mood. The singing storyline with Rex was probably my favorite. I mean, who doesn’t love a musical romance?
Now, let’s talk endings. There are six, including one where Cami ditches the guys to focus on herself, which I appreciate. But here’s my main issue: it ends too abruptly. One moment, you’re getting invested in the storyline and the next—it’s over. That’s where Otome games have the upper hand; they give you hundreds of hours to really get to know the characters and the story.
Bottom line? “Choose Love” is entertaining but lacks depth. If you’re into Otome games, you’ll probably get a kick out of it. But don’t expect a deep, drawn-out experience. It builds things up just to rush you to an ending, missing out on those crucial middle bits. Still, it’s a fun watch!
The interactive games are a really cool concept in my opinion. I’ve seen a lot of people share the same thoughts at you – and me, I guess!
Thanks for sharing 🙂
