Apple TV’s New Update to Put Huge Emphasis on Gaming

According to this quote from an article on theverge.com
”The new Apple TV is much more powerful than its predecessor, which is a crucial upgrade for the device’s gaming ambitions. It’s powered by a 64-bit A8 processor and supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. “It’s just 10 millimeters taller,” than the previous device, said Apple’s Eddy Cue. As for connections, the new Apple TV carries over the same, simplistic power / HDMI / ethernet setup as the old model. It will launch in late October in two configurations: 32GB for $149 or 64GB for $199.

With the newly built-in app store, Apple and third-party developers will expand Apple TV’s software ecosystem and widen its core functionality to put a much bigger emphasis on gaming.”
Not only that, but it can use a wide range of controllers as cited in this article here: http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/9/9261153/apple-tv-video-game-controller-options-price-specs

They are calling it the console killer. and it’s not just casual gamers who should be interested in this; as NEW games are being developed specifically for Apple TV. Based on the controller design and the fact it can use Steel Series controllers as well, it is expected that we will see Apple try to grab a piece of the console gaming pie from “Core” gamers as well.

These new Apple TV Units will begin rolling out in October.

This is really exciting news. I play both casual and core games and I plan to pick one of these puppies up once it releases. I just got a PSTV last week and am enjoying that; I expect this experience to be similar.
