A Personal Update

I try not to post too many personal posts on this site. Trying to look at least a little professional haha. But when Real Life interferes with the blogging, I think it's time for a quick update as to explain the lack of updates lately. This is one of those personal posts about me, the blogger, and not really relevant to the other topics you see here. So if you're curious, click on to read more, and if not, no hard feelings. Go check out some of my game reviews or something instead :). I'm in the process of moving right now. House is due to close on February 1st. I have spent a long time living in really poor conditions and our new home might be poor to a lot of people (still trailer trash lol) but it's a god send to me and my family. We've been living in absolute hell for the past 2 years

12 Months Anime Review

Title: Twelve Months Studio: Toei Release Date: 1978 This was a joint production with a Russian studio and is based on a Russian Fairy Tale. - The only one I could find online was dubbed in Russian and had English subtitles. There are also Japanese and English voiced versions. The Russian one is not terrible though since the anime is "Set in Russia" and the characters themselves are supposed to be Russian. Story: 10/10 I enjoyed the story immensely despite the age of the film and having watched it in Russian language. I think it's an under rated and obscure anime. It is older than me, and probably older than most of my readers. The story is about Anna, a young orphan girl whose step mother and step sister treat like a servant. One day, she meets a soldier sent from the palace looking

Only Yesterday Anime Review

Title: Only Yesterday Genre: Slice of Life, Romance Release Date: 1991 Studio: Studio Ghibli Overall: 23/35 66% D "Average Anime For Girls" Story: 5/10 A young woman goes to spend a summer on her aunt's farm. While helping out on the farm and around the house she is reminded of her childhood. She also meets a young man working on the farm and must reconcile her feelings of her childhood in order to become a woman. The story is told through numerous flash backs that take place 17 years prior to the current events. The flashbacks are of other people, friends, family members, former romances, etc that she has encountered thus far in her life and how they've shaped her outlook on life and her experiences. It is very slow moving. If I were just grading about the last 30 minutes of this f

I'm going to join next time before I purchase a new release or preorder another game. I already use Amazon when I want a physical copy of a game anyways (still mostly rely on steam for the digital, though I think this discount also applies to digital stuff too!), so why not take advantage of this awesome Prime benefit?! This is not just a "sale" or an "offer" - This is a FEATURE - a permanent benefit to being an Amazon Prime Member. You will get 20% off all new releases if you purchase within 2 weeks of launch date or also receive 20% whenever you preorder a new game! Let's do the math. More often than not, they serve as children for couples unable to conceive on their own, or taking the place of children who died. Imagine what you would do to protect your child. Now imagine if you knew that your time with your child was limited. You knew at best you'd have 10, maybe 15 years together. Kodocha Child’s Toy Anime Review

Title: Kodocha Alternate Title: Child's Toy Genre: Romantic Comedy / Slice of Life / Drama Studio: Studio Gallop, NAS Length: 102 Episodes Release Date: 1996 Based Upon: "Kodomo no Omocha" manga by Miho Obana Where to Buy: Amazon.com/Kodocha.. - This is a pretty old and rare / obscure series. At time of writing, there's only 2 copies of the Kodocha Season 1 DVD box set available - for about $45. I'd encourage you to snap them up now, rather than later, as it will become harder and harder to find as time goes on. The Season 2 Kodocha DVD boxset is even more rare, with only 1 copy for $135 at time of this review. Overall: 30/35 86% B "Very Good Anime For Girls" Story: 10/10 The story in Kodocha is very unique. I can't think of any other anime that 1.) Deal with child stars or 2.) Fo

Monster Rancher EVO | Monster Rancher 5 | PS 2 | Monster Taming | Retro RPG | Review

Monster Rancher is a series of games (there's also an anime) in which you (at certain prompts) insert another cd, dvd, or game disc into your machine to generate a monster which you then take back to your ranch to train for battle. I'm reviewing Monster Rancher EVO today because it stands out the most for its story and characters, although its gameplay deviates significantly from any of the other games in the Monster Rancher world. I recommend this game, but I also would recommend any of the other Monster Rancher games as well. I've played them all (with the exception of the hand held ones). It is truly a great monster taming series. Also, although no new games have been released in over half a decade, there are 2 different mobile games which come close to capturing the spirit and fu...

Princess Maker 2 Review | Retro PC Game | Simulation Game | Life Sim | Anime Game

IMPORTANT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN NOW LEGALLY BUY AND PLAY THIS GAME ON STEAM. RE-Released with new art work as "Princess Maker 2 Refine" You can grab the game, and learn more about the release on my news article here: Princess Maker 2 Refine Now Available in English on Steam for the PC. Princess Maker 2 is part of the Princess Maker Franchise - Note - none of these games were ever released in English. Princess Maker 2's translation was mostly complete - 99.99999% when their licensing agreement fell through and also the game met tough criticism (by American media and press outlets) from people that viewed it as too pedophiliac in nature despite there being absolutely no sex scenes in this game. The (western) world was just not ready for Princess Maker 2 (and may never be ready

Retro Gaming Convention to Benefit Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital

I love retro videogames. I'm also (relatively) close to Pittsburgh. There's a convention coming up that I really want to attend at the end of this month. It's the Pittsburgh Retro Gaming Convention, in it's 2nd year of operation. The event will take place one day only on January 23rd, 2016 from 10am-3pm at the XTAZA Nightclub on 1620 Smallman St. Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Tickets are just $15 and all profits go to the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. Check out http://pittsburghretrogaming.com for more info. They have cosplay and everything :) -- Of course with only 2 weeks until the event, not much time to make a costume this year haha. I don't really know how "retro" their games are, given their tournaments include super smash bros melee and street fighter iv - both from around 2010 (only a

Growlanser Generations: Growlanser II and Growlanser III Review

Hang tight; things are going to get confusing if you've never heard of this series before. Growlanser Generations is the name of an American version of Growlanser II and III (that's the one I'm reviewing below). BUT Growlanser Generations is the name of a Japanese game in the same game series, which is Growlanser V (and this game was also released in America as Growlanser Heritage of War, but I hate (or at least strongly dislike) that one, so I'm not reviewing it (at least not right now). So Keep in mind, this is a review of Growlanser II and Growlanser III (Generations NA). And it is NOT a review of Growlanser V (Generations JP) Got it? Good :) Title: Growlanser Generations Publisher: Working Designs Release Date: 2004 Platform: PS2 Genre: Strategy RPG with Dating Sim Elements Wher

Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka Anime Review

Title: Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka?!! (So I'm a zombie?!!) Length: 22 Episodes Genre: Comedy, Parody, Action, Romance, Harem Overall: 28/35 80% Very Good Anime For Girls Story: 9/10 Kore Wa Zombie is a fun series that pokes fun at both itself and several other anime tropes. For example, the main character becomes a magical girl who fights with a giant chainsaw while wearing a pink uniform and hairstyle very similar to Card Captor Sakura. He finds himself in the middle of a harem with a house full of beautiful, but strange other worldly girls, including a Necromancer, Magical Girl, Ninja, and more. One episode even parodies and pokes fun at the idol culture in Japan. While all of that sounds silly (and it is pretty hilarious), the story is not without substance, feeling, and heart also. Nam
